To practice the Six Sigma philosophy at optimal levels, strong leadership is critical. When management teams are set up, everyone has a specialty and is accountable for their particular section or unit, and performance improvements goals must be strategized and implemented.
True leaders don’t come in a “one size fits all” personality or style. They run the gambit from laid back to Type A, and everything in between. So how can you tell if you have a great leader? Simply look at their team: Are they motivated, committed, and focused on meeting their goals? If they are, then you have a true leader running the show.
True Leaders are Synergistically in Tune with Their Team
So what is required to lead well? Leaders must carry an intention that is transmitted to the team, so that the team feels it and are running on that fuel. It has to be authentic to be felt, and once the team feels it, you are guaranteed a fun ride to success.
Six Sigma requires management to be part of the team, and not just sit idle and dish out commands. Many company managers end up doing just that, mainly because company protocols seem to be more important than having processes that actually work.
So the tools that Six Sigma utilizes are crucial to that true leader, because he or she is striving for perfection, or at least to be 99.99966% defect free.
When kids play, their play is perfect — because they use their minds to make things real. So for example, if they are playing army, they sincerely are protecting their troops from the enemy. It is that same sincerity, combined with intent, that makes a great leader.
Six Sigma tools go hand in hand with every great leader. The tools used in Six Sigma will produce what the mind can foresee. As a team needs a leader, the leader needs the team, and a true leader never forgets this.
