What Should be on a Reputable Training Website?

At SixSigmaUS, our goal is to provide accurate and useful Six Sigma information you can rely on. As such, it’s unfortunate that a lot of Six Sigma organizations are not as reputable as they appear. From their websites alone, you should be able to tell the difference between trustworthy and suspicious sites. In this article, we look at how you can spot these differences, and tell a reputable training website from a bogus one. Here are some features to look out for.

Detailed Information about the Company

Reputable training websites naturally contain reams of information about what they do. The more detailed the information, the more you can count on that company being worth your time. There are plenty of bogus Six Sigma sites out there, which is why you need to be careful. Look at the quality of the written material and how they present themselves through their website content. Does it sound professional? Do they make links to companies they have provided services for? Watch out for generalizations and vague-sounding statements. Look for demonstration of skill as opposed to just advertizing it. Invalid contact information can also be a clue to whether a site can be trusted. Always beware, as there are many sites just out to make a quick buck.

Does the Website have a Company Blog?

Blogs take time and dedication, and reputable training websites are more likely to have them. This may not always be the case, however, as blogs can act as delivery systems for false and unprofessional information. If a site does have a blog, is it well-maintained and updated regularly? Reputable training websites use their blogs as platforms to demonstrate Six Sigma knowledge. Blog posts are more than likely to talk about previous partnerships, the training courses they provide, and to offer sound advice on Six Sigma matters.

Detailed Information about Training Courses

Every reputable training website for Six Sigma should contain detailed information about the services that they offer. Look at each course for each Belt level. Try to assess the breadth of the curriculum for each. Do they seem to be missing something? Is there mention of all the standard Six Sigma tools and ideas that you would expect? It’s always best to do some research before approaching a training organization. The last thing you want is to get the short end of the stick later.

Additionally, watch out for so-called “accelerated courses”. Though they claim to deliver the same training via intensive study, you’re likely to be short-changed. Accelerated courses also tend to provide only half the usual amount of training. They often cost the same price as a regular course, if not higher. As such, reputable training websites are far less likely to advertize them. Remember, there are no shortcuts in Six Sigma. Training should be no different.

Testimonials Can Help Identify a Reputable Training Website

You know you’ve found a reputable training website when they have someone to vouch for them! Take a look at the site’s testimonials from clients. The more there are, the better the site. But don’t forget, you never know who can be trusted. Consider all endorsements closely, however, as a little research will go a long way to putting your mind at rest. Furthermore, don’t immediately dismiss a training website with few testimonials as untrustworthy. Reaching out to companies the site has dealt with in the past can assuage or cement any reservations you might have.
